LA is full of beautiful people, and they’re not just beautiful on the outside, but in body, mind and spirit.
According to YogaLAOnline, “When he first arrived on the West Coast in 1925, Paramahansa Yogananda called Los Angeles “the Benares of America.” L.A. reminded him of India’s holiest city because a certain spiritual energy permeated the hot, dry air.”
More than two decades before Yogananda chose to stay in LA permanently, Swami Vivekananda visited LA in 1899 as well, helping to plant the seeds that would later grow into the LA yoga tree.
Countless celebrities like Mick Jagger, Marlon Brando, Gary Cooper and Marilyn Monroe practiced yoga in the 50’s and in the 1930’s stars like Greta Garbo and Charlie Chaplin would head up to Ojai on their roaders to listen to their guru, Jiddu Krishnamurti.
From Santa Monica to Beverly Hills and even Downtown, today yoga is simply part of the LA lifestyle, and is practiced by Angelenos everywhere.
