Beryll Travel Series: Malibu

A Travel Diary by Beryll Founder, Petra Berg
A day in my hometown

Malibu has always been more than just home, it is where the spirit of Beryll finds its inspiration. The ocean air, the golden light, and the effortless rhythm of life here are constant reminders that true luxury is quiet. A perfect day in Malibu is never complicated. It’s about simple pleasures, local favorites, and time spent in nature.

MY PERFECT DAY IN MALIBU

Morning Hike at Escondido Falls
I love to start the day out in nature. The Santa Monica Mountains is always a go to. Another one of my favorite trails is Escondido Falls. The four-mile hike winds through shaded canyons and opens to a beautiful waterfall. The cool air, soft mist, and quiet strength of the falls are the perfect blend of energy and calm to begin the day.

Brunch at Malibu Farm Restaurant
After the hike, I head straight to the pier for brunch at Malibu Farm Restaurant. Fresh, simple, organic food, exactly the way I love to start my morning. My go-to is the fried egg sandwich, simple and satisfying after the hike. But if I’m in the mood for something sweet, I’ll order the Swedish pancakes with berries.

Surf Lesson at Surfrider Beach
Late morning is for the ocean. A surf lesson at Surfrider Beach is always a favorite. The rhythm of the waves mirrors the rhythm of life here: sometimes calm, sometimes wild, always alive.

Lunch at Malibu Seafood
For lunch, I keep it casual at Malibu Seafood. I’ll usually order the fresh grilled fish plate or their famous fish and chips, always best enjoyed outside with the ocean view just across the street. It’s these simple pleasures that inspire Beryll’s timeless ease.

Afternoon Walk at Westward Beach
With the day slowing down, I head to Westward Beach for a walk along the sand. It’s wide, open, and less crowded than other beaches, perfect for clearing the mind. I often find design ideas surfacing here, in the quiet between each step.

Dinner at Sunset Restaurant
The day ends at Sunset Restaurant, just steps from the sand. Dinner comes with the best show in Malibu: the sun dipping into the Pacific, painting the sky in shades of gold and rose. While Nobu may be the spot everyone knows, for me, a casual dinner at Sunset captures the true essence of Malibu; unpretentious, beautiful, and unforgettable.
